A Goal Accomplished

First off, I’m writing this from my phone, so please forgive me if it’s wonky.

When I divorced, I knew that I couldn’t stay in the house because the mortgage was more than I could handle.  So, we sold the house.  I moved in to a 900sq ft apartment and it was an adjustment, but not terrible.  I made myself a promise right then.  I would buy a house all on my own and something that I could afford on my own (with God, of course).  I saved up and a year and a half later, I bought my first house ALL on my own!!!!

My SO and I moved in about two months ago and it’s been really nice.  We are about twenty minutes from work and they just started building on our street.  The house sits on almost an acre, so we have plenty of yard space, too.  And yes, the SO was okay with being left off of the loan, because he knew it was my goal and he understood what it meant to me.
Here we are the day we did the last walk through and saw the SOLD sign.

It’s Christmas Time!

“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and shall bear a son, and call his name Immanuel.”  – Isaiah 7:14

Something that has happened since the divorce is that I’ve devoted more time to studying the Bible.  I used to DVR Joyce Meyers and watch a few of those at a time, taking notes.  But right now, I’m reading a Bible study by Beth Moore called Breaking Free. Also, I’m doing a few Bible verses each day in December (today being the first day) and the above one is the first verse of today’s assignment.  I thought that was pretty fitting.  🙂

So, in case you didn’t know, I didn’t grow up in a home that went to church.  My mom was an atheist (she has since found God) and my dad was a believer who was raised in church, but who had a hard life and who also didn’t want to go against my mother more than he already had to.  So, the very first time I remember going to church, I went with my cousin (I had spent the night at her house) and only stayed a few minutes….because I had an allergic reaction and had to leave.  Btw, the allergic reaction was to strawberry fruit roll-ups, not church. lol

When my parents divorced and my dad remarried, his wife took her kids to church each Sunday and Wednesday.  So, that’s when I began going.  I got my first Bible from a tv commercial – I called and they sent me a Bible. Then, when I was 16 I was baptized.  That same night, my mother grounded me because of said baptism.  She said I wasn’t baptized by a Godly man – she didn’t like the preacher.  So, I was grounded.

Anywho, all of that to say, I wasn’t brought up in the normal Christian household and it’s something that I struggle with to this day.  I don’t know the normal stories that you’re told in Sunday school growing up (think Jonah and the whale…I’m hoping it’s Jonah at least).  With the ex, I felt uncomfortable admitting that and reading my Bible in front of him.  But, with the SO (that’s what I’m calling him right now) that’s all changed.  He grew up going to a private Christian school and he wants me to get comfortable with my Christianity.

So, all of that to say, Christmas is going to be more meaningful this year, as I dig deeper and deeper into the Bible and learn more and more.  I hope that Christmas is that way for you, too.

AdvoCare Cyber Monday

I promise not every post (or many) will be about AdvoCare, but I thought I’d share these deals, because they truly are great deals.

If you’re interested in ordering anything, please visit http://www.iamteamshannon.com and click on the banner.  These are all in limited quantities and will sell out.  This only goes until Friday, also.

Now, I promise the next post will not be about AdvoCare.  🙂

Something on the side…

Along with all the changes that I’ve made, I now do a little something on the side.  I sell AdvoCare.  Now before you leave this page completely, let me tell you why.

I’m addicted to Spark.

There, I said it.  What is Spark?  It’s a caffeinated drink mix that has a ton of vitamins and minerals.  It comes in a few different flavors like green apple, grape, fruit bunch, etc.  My favorite is fruit punch, btw.  But, it’s more than just a drink mix.  It has made my hair grow like crazy and it’s given me stronger nails.  Basically, it helps me fill in the gaps that my multivitamin was leaving and it gives me energy.

So, in order to save myself some money, I became an AdvoCare distributor to gain the discount.  That’s one of the best things that I’ve done for myself and my health.  I not only save myself money but I also am able to gain access to some great products, which I’ll go into in another post.  But, I will say that aside from the Spark, the Performance Elite products have helped me greatly with my half marathon training.  Again, I’ll go more into all this a little bit later, but if you’re interested in knowing more now, then let me know and we’ll talk!

Why the name?

So, why the name “I Am Team Shannon”… Well, as some of you may remember, I was married for six years (together for eight years). When I was married, I was all about “Team (FormerLastName)” and making everything work for the good of the team.

It turns out that I was the only one who thought of us as a Team. My former teammate was only looking out for himself and what HE wanted. I don’t want to get in to what happened too deeply, because I don’t want any backlash from anyone who could possibly read this. But, I knew that something wasn’t right the year that we married. Being the person that I am, I thought that this phase would pass and everything would return back to normal. What I didn’t know is that it would only get worse.

You see, he had this one “friend” that he texted every night after I went to bed (I used to work an early shift). He texted this friend for a YEAR before I found out it was going on. He even texted this person on our wedding night. Him and his friend both tried to convince me that nothing was going on and since this person was 10 years older than both of us, I thought there was no way anything could be going on. I mean, this person is 10 years older and has a teenager! Why would anything be going on with them?! Ha, ha, oh naive Shannon.

There were other things going on besides this, that made me question things, but again, they assured me that they were just really good friends. Then, he started acting really weird and just so out of character. He blamed work stress. We had some really rocky moments because of this “friend” and then the added “work stress.” One such moment, he told me that okay, yes the friend did in fact tell him that she loved him, but he told her that he didn’t feel the same way and that they were just friends. Right. I should’ve left then. I asked him to please find another job. This job caused so much stress and then there was this friend…. He eventually left that job and we moved. I thought, okay, we’re good now. No.

This went on for years – 5 years to be exact. Then, one night I went to wake him up out of his slumber and picked up his phone to see a naked photo and the words “Goodnight, baby. I love you!” Oh, but not to be alarmed… He assured me that she had sent that to him by mistake and that it was really meant for her boyfriend. Nevermind the fact that they weren’t supposed to be texting anymore at this point (he had promised that they stopped). He then grabbed the phone from me and locked himself in the spare bedroom. Good times, my friends! Meanwhile, stupid me stayed for another year…

I eventually woke up and just decided that I didn’t want to live this way. I didn’t want to live with the anxiety of wondering what was going to happen next and if he was really cheating on me. I just couldn’t believe that he would cheat on me and of course, they both made me feel like I was crazy for even thinking this. Really, I was crazy for staying for as long as I did. So, when I finally left, he told me to just tell everyone that we had “grown apart.” Of course my family knew the truth…but his family still thinks we just grew apart. I can’t believe I let him get away with that. I can’t believe that I let him walk all over me in the divorce papers, taking things that were mine. There are just so many things that I can’t believe.

But guess what folks, a year after our divorce was final – him and his friend married.

So, I’m now Team Shannon. Team Shannon trusts her gut, puts herself first or at least not last, and has found someone who treats her the best she has ever been treated. I’ve discovered a lot about myself and I know what I want from life now. I also know that I won’t stand around and let someone treat me like crap. I have a lot of emotional scars caused by my exhusband and his new wife. I’m working through a lot of that still and I’m thankful that I have someone by my side who understands that I need time and that I have some trust issues still.

Whew! That was a lot! But, now I hope you understand why the name of the blog and why I’ve decided to just start a fresh blog instead of writing in the old one.  🙂

Hey, I’m Shannon. I’m 34 and live in Central Arkansas. I have a MBA and a Bachelor’s in Business. My first job out of college I programmed some and worked on the company’s database a lot. After layoff scares, I made the move to another company where I’ve been working for the last 9 years. At said job, I make changes to the network and resolve re-occuring network issues. All of that sounds pretty boring, I’m sure.

I have a dog and a cat (actually, the cat belongs to the boyfriend, but he’s becoming MY cat). Rocky is a 8 year old Jack Russell and Abe is a 3 year old…cat. Outside of the normal day-to-day stuff, I like to read, crochet, and run. Running is probably my favorite of those three things and I’ll explain more about that in another post.

I used to blog a few years back. Actually, I’ve had a blog on Blogger and WordPress. I’m not sure they still exist, although I’m sure they do somewhere… but I’ve decided to start a new, fresh blog and not even look for the previous two. Those blogs contain memories that I thought were great at the time and then found out later that they were all lies. Again, I’ll expand on this in another post.

So, why blogging now? The short and sweet of it is that I missed it. I formed some great online friendships through blogging and I really just miss connecting with people in different areas who have common interests or similar events going on in their lives. So if you’re reading this, reach out! And thank you, for reading 🙂
